Terrell Owens is set to compete in the next season of Donald Trump's hit NBC series the "Celebrity Apprentice," according TMZ Sports.

Owens, who last played in the NFL with Cincinnati in 2010, will star in this year's 14th season which is set to air later this year. Despite far-ranging efforts, Owens has failed to hook on with another team since his days with the Bengals. He was cut by the Seattle Seahawks in one of the few opportunities he's been given.

TMZ speculates Owens may now be hoping to take advantage of the exposure the show could provide him, much in the same way fellow celebs Joan Rivers, Arsenio Hall and Clay Aiken all have. Each of them benefitted from a major career resurgence after appearing on the show, which Rivers and Hall both won.

Owens won't be the first former big-name athlete to appear on the show. Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has competed before and rumors are tennis legend Martina Navratilova may join Owens as one of this season's contestants.

Owens has been in the news of late, filing for divorce from his wife of only three days, as both publicly bicker about assets and the dissolution of their brief union.

In all, Owens played 15 NFL seasons, snaring 1,078 catches for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns.
