The Darrelle Revis signing may be having a ripple effect among the Patriots organization. New England Patriots NT/DT Vince Wilfork has asked to be released after spending his entire 10 year career in New England.
Wilfork is coming off a dominant season before rupturing his Achilles tendon, ending his season abruptly. Wilfork asked for this release after the Patriots asked him to restructure his $11.6 million cap hit. The recent Revis signing isn't directly the reason for the request to restructure, but more Wilfork's age and situation.

The Patriots struggled against the run after Wilfork went down with his injury, but still finished 12-4 and went to the AFC Championship. Expect the Patriots to attempt and restructure Wilfork one last time internally and then grant the veteran his wish. Expect the Patriots to platoon the DT position in 2014 with in house talent, a possible free agent and a draft selection or two.

Wilfork will have a market to choose from because of his reputation and skill set. He can play both NT and DT in the 3-4 or the 4-3. My concern with Wilfork is his age ability to come back from his Achilles tear. This injury isn’t as easy to come back from for larger men and Wilfork is pushing 325 pounds at 32. Look for the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders to be interested in Wilforks services if they don’t sign B.J. Raji and Jason Hatcher, respectfully.
Will Wilfork get his release? If so, who will pick him up? Tell us @SportsWN
