Are the New York Knicks eyeing current Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson as a possible replacement to Mike Woodson?
Mitch Lawrence of NY Daily News is speculating that the Knicks could have their eyes set on their former playmaker judging by the way the team handled Jackson's return to Madison Square Garden. He cited the Knicks' tribute to Jackson with a video montage of his playing days in New York where he played in two separate stints.
"Then came the ultimate tribute, at the end of the video, when the PA announcer introduced Jackson, saying, 'Once a Knick, always a Knick,' he wrote.
Jackson himself was pretty cordial, calling the Knicks a 'dangerous team' and saying that the team is still in the race for the eighth and last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The columnist, however, made it clear that no job offer was made to Jackson. "We know this because it was just small talk, chit-chat among old friends," he wrote in his column. "But it was fairly obvious to everyone in the place that the Knicks have a crush on their old playmaker."
As Lawrence pointed out in his piece, Jackson was nearly the Knicks coach in 2008 until then president of basketball operations Danny Walsh named Mike D'Antoni as head coach instead. Jackson still has two more years in his contract, with massive expectations in the Bay Area following their strong postseason last year.
"For all the progress that the Warriors have made under Jackson in his three seasons in the Bay Area, there are rumblings that he's not on totally safe ground," Lawrence added.
