Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and his fiancée both were arrested stemming from a domestic dispute between the couple over the weekend in Atlantic City, N.J., the Baltimore Sun reported Sunday night.
Citing a statement from the Atlantic City Police Department, the Sun reported that casino security officers responded to a call at the Revel Casino at about 2:50 a.m. Saturday after a fight escalated into a physical altercation.
Video surveillance recorded the altercation, the police said in the statement, showing both Rice and Janay Palmer were involved in physical contact.
"The complaint summons indicates that both Rice and Palmer struck each other with their hands," the statement said, according to the Sun.
Rice, 27, and Palmer, 26, were charged with simple assault-domestic violence and were released on a summons to appear in court, the Sun reported. Neither reported any injuries nor sought medical attention.
Rice's attorney, Andrew Alperstein, told the Sun that the incident was a "very minor physical altercation" between the Ravens running back and Palmer.
Chad Steele, the Ravens' director of public relations, responded to the Sun, saying: "We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancée. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained."
Rice is coming off a career-worst 660 rushing yards and four touchdowns with the Ravens in 2013. Baltimore missed the playoffs for the first time since Rice joined the team in 2008.
He has rushed for 6,180 yards and 37 TDs during his NFL career, earning Pro Bowl designation three times. Rice signed a five-year, $35 million extension in 2012. According to the Sun, he is one of the most active players in the community and speaks out in anti-bullying campaigns.
