At 38, Miami Heat reserve guard Ray Allen is one of the oldest players in the league but the NBA's all-time leader in three-point field goals made has no plans of retiring yet.
In their recent game against the LA Clippers, Allen was the lone Heat player to play all 12 minutes in the fourth quarter. The three point shooter played splendidly, scoring 11 points including a crucial trifecta that sealed the game for the Heat.
"At this point, I love how my body feels," he told Sun Sentinel. "It's 18 years for me. I love what I've done and how I've continued to feel."
While some of his younger teammates like Shane Battier had been pondering about retiring, Allen has indicated no plans yet of hanging up his sneakers. Battier, for one, had discussed to the media about playing his final game at Madison Square Garden after the Heat defeated the Knicks last week.
"I just try not to predetermine," he said. "It's like waking up in the morning and having an injury and saying, 'I'm not playing at 7:30 at night.' I say, 'Well, let me build my body into it and see.' "
Battier had this to say about Allen's health: "It's funny. The thought of me retiring has crossed my mind. But Ray? No. I think really, realistically, if he wanted to play another three or four more years, he could do it. He could play until he's 42. He could, because he takes impeccable care of his body."
Allen is averaging 9 points and 3 assists a game in his second year with the Heat.
