Carmelo Anthony 2014 Trade Rumors: Knicks Star Headed to Chicago After This Season? [VIDEO]

Carmelo Anthony may have set a new New York Knicks franchise scoring record of 62 points during their game against the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday night, but his record-setting performance has also triggered speculations about his future particularly his interest on signing with the Chicago Bulls as a free agent.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that a longtime confidant of the star forward is saying that Anthony is more likely to sign with the Chicago Bulls instead of the LA Lakers, where his bosom buddy Kobe Bryant is playing. Anthony can leave the Knicks at the end of the season, although that would also mean leaving $129 million in the table.

"Chicago is much more in play for him than L.A.," the source told Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

According to the said writer, the Bulls are planning to amnesty Carlos Boozer to save dollars and create salary cap space for potentially signing Anthony. The departure of Luol Deng via a trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers has also increased the likelihood that Anthony will sign with the Bulls and form a lethal twosome with former MVP Derrick Rose.

Anthony has remained noncommittal about his free agency status, preferring to keep mum on his future plan and insisting that he's focused to help the Knicks this season. The Knicks have been playing sub-par basketball with a 16-27 record. His record-breaking scoring spree against the Bobcats has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season for the Knicks. His 62 points is the highest scoring output this season and the best individual scoring performance at the famed Madison Square Garden.
