The Boston Celtics are a lot of years away from contending again for the NBA championship now that it has rebuilt its roster following the trade of long-time stars Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, but it is not disheartening current star Rajon Rondo who recently aired his interest in staying in Beantown for another 10 years.
According to the Celtics guard, he is open to the idea of staying with the team and possibly play out the rest of his career with the league's most successful franchise. He specifically told ESPN.com on Friday that: "I like to stick to the script. I don't like change much. I wouldn't mind staying here the rest of my career. Things don't always seem to go that way, but like I said before, it's just a business. I wouldn't mind extending another 10 years in Boston."
The star guard said he believes that his handler and the Celtics management had held talks earlier this month about extending his contract, and added he has not given much thought about the possibility of staying in Boston.
When he was told the Celtics executive Danny Ainge commented that he will make 'stat money' on the open market, Rondo reportedly retorted that he is making good money right now, and that the Celtics has given him a good living. He also said he will let his agent be in charge of all the numbers.
On Thursday, Ainge said the Celtics have discussed contract extension with their star guard but the collective bargaining agreement restricts them from further engaging in talks until after the season.
