This happened in the third set of what had been an intense match between Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson from Canada against Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Duda Lisboa of Brazil. The players ended up in a shouting match at the net, raising tempers. The refs separated both teams but it did not end there as Wilkerson also stared down Ana Patricia.

Misunderstandings Cleared After-Match

Wilkerson later explained to reporters that the incident was a misunderstanding. She had been reacting to her family in the crowd, who were seated and cheering behind both Brazilian players. However, Ana Patricia misinterpreted her gestures as taunts.

Notwithstanding that incident earlier on, they still showed respect for each other as they hugged afterwards and took pictures on the podium once Brazil won 15-10.

"We're competitors and we are fighting for the same thing: There's only one gold medal," Wilkerson said, according to DailyMail. "Immediately after the game, it's all love and respect. We bring out the best in each other, and I'm honored to play against this team."
