Red Bull driver Sergio Perez had a disastrous weekend at the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix last Sunday, June 10, at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

The 34-year-old failed to get past Q1 in qualifying, starting 16th in the race. He then crashed in the 51st lap, losing control of the RB20 when he drove through a wet spot that eventually did enough damage for his car to be out of the race.

Perez was then handed a significant punishment from the FIA in relation to the crash, receiving a three-place grid penalty for the next race at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona on June 23.

This penalty was due to his decision to continue driving the car back to the pits after the crash, leaving the car significantly damaged and leaving a trail of debris on the track.

In addition, Red Bull has also received a fine worth €25,000 ($26,800).

Sergio Perez held to zero points for second straight race

Perez's first race since announcing his two-year contract extension, extending his tenure with Red Bull until 2026, has not gone well.

The Mexican has crashed out of the race for the second straight Grand Prix, although he lasted a bit longer in Canada.

During the previous race in Monaco, Perez crashed out in the first lap after a collision with Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Niko Hulkenberg.
