Dan Hurley is about to make a pivotal decision about whether to accept the head coaching role with the Los Angeles Lakers or continue his work with the UConn Huskies.

The Lakers have been actively pursuing the two-time NCAA Division I champion coach to lead their team, following several seasons of falling short in their quest for a record-breaking 18th title.

Hurley is expected to finalize his decision by Monday, June 10, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The 51-year-old tactician traveled to Los Angeles last Thursday evening, where he met with the Lakers to hear their proposal the next day. He then returned to the East Coast on Saturday morning.

The New Jersey native acknowledged that the Lakers presented a persuasive case, with the team's general manager, Rob Pelinka, and owner Jeanie Buss outlining a compelling vision for him as the team's next head coach.

Despite this, Hurley remains torn about departing from the defending national champions, the UConn Huskies, which has led to a prolonged decision-making process.

This is not the first time the Lakers have tried attracting a decorated college head coach to the professional ranks. It comes two decades after the team unsuccessfully attempted to hire Duke coaching legend Mike Krzyzewski in 2004.
