The Washington Commanders have no placekickers on their roster following their latest move.
The team has decided to release Brandon McManus following an alleged sexual assault case that became public late last month.
Washington made the move official on Sunday, June 2, per league insider Adam Schefter on ESPN.
"We take allegations of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter. We have been in communication with the League Office and Brandon's representation, and will reserve further comment at this time," the franchise initially said in a statement.
The Commanders will carry on their organized team activities on Monday, June 3, without any kickers in their roster.
Brandon McManus just signed a multi-million deal with the Commanders
McManus spent the 2023 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, during which the sexual assault incident occurred during a team flight while they were en route to London for the league's international games in late September 2023.
After his deal in Jacksonville expired, the 32-year-old inked a one-year contract valued at $3.6 million with the Commanders in March 2024.
This agreement includes a $1.5 million signing bonus, although the fate of that amount remains uncertain following the controversy he is facing. The bonus is the only guaranteed money on his pact.
He previously spent the majority of his career with the Denver Broncos from 2014 to 2022.
