Will the 76ers Go Star Hunting This Offseason? Moves for Philly to Consider

There is all the making for an important offseason in Philly this year.

After being unceremoniously bounced in the first round by the New York Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers will now have to kick things around in hopes of adding pieces around Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

Embiid's Health and Age

One factor in the 76ers championship equation is how healthy Joel Embiid can stay.

Embiid, this past season, sat out for most of the year due to a lateral meniscus injury in his left knee.

He was still superb in games played, averaging 34.7 points along with 11 rebounds per game. But Embiid did miss most of the season and entered the postseason hobbled, while also dealing with a case of Bell's Palsy during the playoffs.

The 76ers won't win anything soon if they're superstar center is off the court.

Considering that Joel Embiid is only getting older, as the former MVP will turn 31 next season, the time to find postseason success with the All-Star center must be now for Philadelphia.

The 76ers' first order of business should be re-signing Tyrese Maxey.

According to ESPN Bobby Marks, Maxey is eligible for a $205 million extension.

Last season Tyrese Maxey showed his worth, becoming an All-Star for the first time while averaging 25.9 points per game and leading Philly into the postseason while Embiid was out.

Adding a Star

Philadelphia should look to add another All-Star to their superstar tandem this offseason.

The 76ers have many moveable players, some of whom are unrestricted free agents. One in particular being Tobias Harris, who many Sixers fans want out after a disappointing performance in the 76ers' first-round matchup versus the Knicks.

Tobias Harris signed a five-year $180 million deal in 2019 and now could be on his way out of Philly.

Players who are also free agents this offseason, like Buddy Hield, Kelly Oubre Jr., and Kyle Lowry, should be easier to retain for Philadelphia. But the big money for Philly this offseason will likely go to a star signing.

The 76ers have shown interest in acquiring Paul George, Klay Thompson, and OG Anunoby. If the Sixers plan to go the trade route for a star player, they do hold some draft picks this year.
