The Oklahoma City Thunder aim to retool this offseason after their playoff run as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference ended with a Game 6 defeat to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Semifinals of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

The team is expected to shop 6-foot-8 wing Josh Giddey in trade talks this offseason, according to league insider Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports.

Oklahoma City will probably attempt to trade the 21-year-old alongside some of their 13 future first-round picks to secure an impact player who is a better fit for their rotation.

Giddey's weaknesses were magnified during their most recent postseason run, with teams leaving him open on the perimeter and exploiting him on defense.

After starting in all 80 games he played in the regular season, the Australian was demoted to the bench in their final two games of the playoffs against the Mavs.

Josh Giddey's contract extension is incoming

Giddey will enter the final guaranteed year of his rookie contract, worth $8.3 million, for the 2024-25 season.

The Melbourne native is set to hit restricted free agency in 2025 unless he accepts a qualifying offer from the Thunder worth $11.1 million for an additional year in 2025-26 or a wholly improved deal if offered by the team.

Giddey earned $6.5 million during the 2023-24 NBA season.
