Draymond Green has often been considered by some as the most crucial component of the Golden State Warriors dynasty, despite not necessarily being their top player due to the role he plays in facilitating their system.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who possesses one of the highest basketball IQs in the game's history, reinforced this notion by elaborating on Green's significant contribution to the Dubs' success during the latest episode of his "Mind The Game" podcast, alongside co-host JJ Redick.

"Draymond Green's biggest asset, offensively, for Golden State is his ability to get Steph open, Klay open. But then play in the pocket where his asset is 4-on-3, now, his IQ kicks in. That's the threat," the NBA's all-time leading scorer explained.

Setting up Curry and Thompson, two of the greatest shooters in NBA history, with consistent open shots sounds like a solid plan.

James added that it takes special personnel and a unique ability to relentlessly switch and defend against Green and the Splash Brothers' pick-and-roll actions.

Draymond Green's major role in the Warriors' championships

The 34-year-old is undeniably recognized as one of the smartest players of his generation. His exceptional playmaking and defense earned acclaim and proved pivotal to the Warriors' NBA championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022.

Despite his significant contributions, some of his emotional outbursts and less-than-desirable offensive skills have occasionally hindered the Warriors.

The 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year has a guaranteed deal with the team running until 2025-26, with an additional player option for 2026-27.
