NFL legend Tom Brady was the subject of a roast during Netflix's comedy special, "The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady," which aired live on the streaming platform on Sunday, May 5.

After several figures had finished roasting the quarterback, Brady took center stage and made more jokes to end the evening.

"Remember Deflategate? The NFL spent $20 million and found that it was more 'probable' than not, that I was 'generally' aware that someone may have deflated my footballs. You could've just given me the 20 million and I would've just told you I f**king did it," the seven-time Super Bowl champion said.

Brady's indirect admission must be taken with a grain of salt due to the show's comedic nature; still, it's significant given the implications of that controversy on-field.

Deflategate controversy cost NFL $20 million

The Deflategate controversy originated when it was discovered that footballs used by the Patriots during the 2014 AFC Championship game were deflated below the league's regulations, allegedly under Brady's orders, to make them easier to grip and catch in cold weather.

The NFL's investigation, which concluded that it was "more probable than not" that Brady was aware of the deflation and failed to cooperate, resulted in the quarterback being suspended for four games, the Patriots being fined $1 million, and draft picks being forfeited.

Legal fees incurred by the NFL, the NFLPA, and the Patriots for the scandal reportedly reached $20 million.
