Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark may be the biggest name in women's basketball right now, but she would need to prove her worth to a particular team to make their roster.

The NCAA's all-time leading scorer is not an automatic member of the United States women's national basketball team that will compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The 22-year-old's performance in the early stages of her WNBA career will serve as her audition for a position on the squad.

"You always want to introduce new players into the pool whether it's for now or the future. We stick to our principles of talent, obviously, positional fit, loyalty and experience. It's got to be a combination of an entire body of work. It's still not going to be fair to some people," selection committee chair Jennifer Rizzotti said.

Caitlin Clark expressed willingness to join Team USA

During a recent press conference earlier this month, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star reiterated her intention to join Team USA.

"USA Basketball, that's your dream. You always want to grow up and be on the Olympic team," Clark said.

The Olympic roster will be determined before June 1, while the Indiana Fever begins their WNBA regular season slate against the Connecticut Sun on May 14.
