Is Lewis Hamilton’s Move From Mercedes to Ferrari a Bad Call by Both Parties? Or Is It Perfect Timing?

Mercedes and Ferrari couldn't have had any more of a polar opposite weekend in Australia, and this includes their drivers; particularly Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz.

Lewis Hamilton Falling Out With Mercedes and Moving Forward With Ferrari

In the Australian Grand Prix we saw Carlos Sainz and Ferrari runaway with a 1-2 finish after the break failure from Red Bull's Max Verstappen. On the backend of Sainz's victory, Lewis Hamilton experienced an engine failure and then his teammate George Russell found a wall in a last lap effort to pass Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso.

After a dreadful start to Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes' 2024 F1 season, did Ferrari make a huge mistake in letting Carlos Sainz walk for the 7-time World Champ?

Our answer is no. And there are a few reasons as to why we believe this is a great move for both.

Why Ferrari, Carlos Sainz, and Lewis Hamilton Could All Walk Away Winners in 2025

Carlos Sainz is an exceptional driver and has started the 2024 F1 season on fire, in a good way, not the way Ferrari seasons typically go. Mercedes on the other hand, are starting to experience the pain the Tifosi have been feeling for years.

In Sainz's departure we hope, we know, he will be just fine. Although his departure is upsetting, Carlos Sainz is definitely making the most of his final season for the Prancing Horses; giving Ferrari fans and F1 fans a season to remember from the Smooth Operator.

With this, it seems to be the right time for Lewis Hamilton to move on from Mercedes as their direction is more suited towards their younger driver in George Russell. For Hamilton, he couldn't be joining a Ferrari team at a better time.

Could We See Lewis Hamilton Become the 8-Time Champ With Ferrari?

The Scuderia ironed out their issues from last year's car design and have developed a car that may be able to challenge Red Bull later into this season, or even for the 2025 season.

Mercedes looks like they are giving Lewis Hamilton a Ferrari beginner's guide so far this season; with a difficult car to drive, bad strategy, and engine failures. Ironically though, Ferrari have been near perfect at the start of the 2024 F1 season. So Hamilton could see himself getting back to form in an adaptable and hopefully reliable Scarlet F1 car in 2025.
