Miami Dolphins standout quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has played a crucial role in propelling the team to the top of the AFC East with an impressive 11-4 win-loss record, positioning them for a chance to clinch the division.

Prior to his professional career, Tagovailoa had a highly decorated college football stint with the Alabama Crimson Tide, spanning three seasons.

Under the guidance of head coach Nick Saban, he achieved significant milestones, including winning the CFP national championship and securing the CFP National Championship Offensive MVP in the 2017 season.

Additionally, in 2018, he was honored with esteemed individual awards such as the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, and the Sporting News College Football Player of the Year.

The 25-year-old was selected by the Dolphins in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the fifth overall pick. Although his rookie campaign saw him juggling roles between backup and starter, Tagovailoa asserted himself as the team's undisputed primary quarterback by the 2021 season.

Tagovailoa is currently on his rookie deal in the NFL, worth $30,275,438 over the course of his first four seasons in the league. He signed the contract upon being drafted in 2020.

This contract was highlighted by a significant signing bonus amounting to $19,578,500, disbursed in his rookie season. When combined with a base salary of $610,000, his earnings for 2020 totaled $20,250,979, marking the highest single-season earnings of his career to date.

Subsequently, his annual salary experienced a decline. In 2021, he garnered total earnings of $1,986,156, comprising a base pay of $780,000 and a roster bonus of $1,206,156.

At the end of the 2023 NFL season, Tagovailoa is expected to accumulate $30,337,917 in terms of NFL salary over the course of his first four seasons in the league, according to numbers from Spotrac.

Tagovailoa is set to make $4,738,468 in the ongoing 2023 NFL season. The figure consists of a $1,010,000 base salary and a roster bonus worth $3,728,468, per figures from Over The Cap.

Last season, the former Alabama signal-caller earned a total of $3,362,312. This figure breaks down into a base salary of $895,000 coupled with a roster bonus amounting to $2,467,312.

In March 2023, the Dolphins decisively exercised the fifth-year option on Tagovailoa's contract for the 2024 NFL season. As a result, he is slated to receive a base salary of $23,171,000 for that particular season.
