Klay Thompson's tenure with the Golden State Warriors is on the rocks, with both sides still reportedly far from any contract extension deal.
The four-time NBA champion guard is in the last year of his deal with the Dubs. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Thompson did not have an agreement on the table when he spoke on FanDuel TV's "Run It Back."
Further, the scribe added how Thompson previously declined a two-year offer worth $48 million in the offseason. That has now led to a stalemate, per USA Today.

"His (Thompson's) future has been in question... I'm told that the Warriors offered a deal, two years at $48 million in an extension to Klay Thompson before the season. And now, there's no deal. He's going to play it out. They're going to play it out," Charania stated.
Thompson's decline is worrying
The five-time All-Star owns career averages of 19.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists. So far this season, he has normed 15.4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 22 games per Basketball-Reference.
Thompson is also shooting only 39.7% from the field so far this season in the 22 games where he has played for the Dubs.
One factor that has hampered Thompson is the injuries he had to endure over the past couple of years. He has dealt with lower-body injuries. At 34 years old, his reaction to questions or criticism has also been noticeable.
His famous line of having won four NBA titles is well-known, which he points out each time he gets into squabbles. But how long will that line hold?
He and the Dubs will have to sit down and talk extensively in the offseason. With his performance, the level of interest from other teams may not be as high as before.
The Warriors could retain him, but the money offered will figure prominently, per CBS Sports. Thompson needs to consider that if he opts to test the market, there is no guarantee that he will be dangled big money - especially at the rate he is playing this 2023-24 season.
