The Los Angeles Chargers suffered a major blow on Sunday, December 10, with Justin Herbert suffering a hand injury in their 24-7 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Herbert suffered the injury in the second quarter and was replaced by Easton Stick, NBC Sports reported. The loss also greatly affected the Chargers' NFL playoff chances. They tote a 5-8 win-loss record heading into Week 15.

The 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year finished 9-of-17 for 96 yards and an interception that led to a one-play, 3-yard drive for the Broncos, and he took four sacks.

How serious is Justin Herbert's injury?

In the latest injury report on Herbert's status via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, it appears the 25-year-old play-caller suffered a fractured index finger in his right throwing hand.

A fractured finger takes roughly six to eight weeks to heal, casting doubts on whether Herbert can still return for the Chargers this 2023-24 season.

NFL Season likely over for the Chargers

Heading into their Week 14 matchup, the Bolts needed a win to keep their postseason chances alive. The devastating loss to Denver practically snuffed all chances of making the AFC playoffs, SI.com reported.

Before the Chargers vs. Broncos game, Los Angeles already had slim chances of making the playoffs. They were given an 18.2% chance by ESPN's Football Power Index. The loss has altered all that dramatically.

With the season possibly over for the Chargers, it casts doubts on the future of head coach Brandon Staley. Critics believe he will be given the pink slip once the current NFL season ends via ProFootball Network.
