The New York Jets could use help at quarterback this season, with head coach Robert Saleh having sleepless nights about the team's struggles. Aaron Rodgers could be the answer following word that he could be back by mid-December.
But the big question here is whether or not the NFL icon should rush back amid the Jets' struggles.

It's all up to A-Rod
As far as Saleh is concerned, the decision to return to football action depends on Rodgers. This is also on the premise that his doctors will give him clearance to play, ESPN reported.
"Aaron's a big boy, a grown man, and no one's going to know Aaron's body like Aaron knows his body," Saleh said on Wednesday, November 15. "And if he feels after all the doctors clear him - I'm sure there's a million of them, I have no idea - but if Aaron says he wants to play, he's going to play."
Further, it was suggested by CBS Sports HQ injury expert Marty Jaramillo that Rodgers is on track for a historic recovery. He sees no reason why the four-time NFL MVP cannot make a mid-December return.
An abrupt return is a gamble that may not pay off
At 39 years old, there is no question that Rodgers could opt to retire. But hinting at the desire to play on beyond this season, it may be wise for him not to rush getting back on the field.
For one, a return does not guarantee that the Jets will have enough time to make the playoffs, Mike Sando of The Athletic reported. Assuming he does the impossible next month, New York may no longer be in the running for a postseason run unless they start figuring out their shortcomings as early as now.
The Jets are 4-6 this season and will face the Miami Dolphins on Friday, November 24.
Save it for 2024
Although Rodgers wants to make history, the risk of aggravating his Achilles looms. It would be make or break for him if he returns too soon, which could permanently end his storied NFL career.
The Jets are struggling with Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle at quarterback. Trevor Siemian could get a chance to play. Saleh has yet to name who will be his starting QB against the Dolphins, but that decision could shed more light on the team's direction.
Better yet, the result may determine whether Rodgers will push his return. A loss may further push Rodgers to make an early return, regardless if his NFL career is on the line.
But if he truly wants to end his career in the manner he wants to, it may be wise to wait until next season to do so.
