The Los Angeles Rams are wasting no time filling the hole in its quarterback department after Matthew Stafford was injured.

The Rams QB suffered a thumb injury in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8 and hasn't returned since.

NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed the Rams are signing Carson Wentz, who last played for the Washington Commanders.

He was also without a team at the start of the season.

The 30-year-old will join a team that dropped their last three games, including a 3-20 beat down from the lowly Green Bay Packers.

The Rams tried to fill the big shoes of Stafford with Bretty Rypien, but the 27-year-old's stint did not yield a good result.

Wentz is just a temporary replacement, as the team also holds out hope that Stafford will be able to return soon.

Coach Sean McVay said his QB is progressing well, although he has yet to join scrimmages.

"We kind of knew that he was not going to participate all week and we'll take it all the way up until game time," McVay said.

He also emphasized how important the following games are as they make a playoff push. The quarterback position is just one of many concerns he has going forward.

"I'm optimistic that I don't even think that's something that we have to worry about, but we will figure out whether it be, not exclusive to the quarterback position but at some other spots, where are possibilities to be able to add competition," he explained.
