Kirk Cousins is confirmed to be out for the whole season for the Minnesota Vikings, and the team did not waste time to find his replacement as the QB1.

Captain Kirk went down in the fourth quarter of their win against the Green Bay Packers, and test results confirmed he has a right Achilles tendon injury.

Coming in his stead is Josh Dobbs, who the Vikings acquired from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick.

Dobbs, a journeyman who has played for six teams already, started all of Cardinals' games this season.

While his former team's record is abysmal, the 28-year-old's record deserves attention.

Dobbs boasts 258 rush yards this season, the third-best in the league behind Lamar Jackson (380 yards) and Jalen Hurts (280 yards).

Dobbs' signing could mean keeping Cousins longer

Dobbs is on a short-term contract, and that means the Vikings have no obligation to keep him beyond this season.

This suggests that Captain Kirk will remain with the team after recovering from his season-ending injury. Cousins is in the last year of his contract and will be a free agent over the summer.

Cousins played one of his best seasons before going down over the weekend.

"Kirk Cousins is going to be healthy again," coach Kevin O'Connell said when asked about the status of his QB1 in the future.

"I know he's going to be a free agent after this season, but Kirk knows how I feel about him, and that'll be something that will hopefully work itself out. ... You guys know how I feel about Kirk. Kirk knows how I feel about Kirk. I think he was playing as well as anybody in the National Football League."
