Maybe Joe Montana was wrong about the underlying cause for Colin Kaepernick's slump this season. The fault for Kaepernick's struggles may not be the media, as Montana suggested, but rather Kaepernick's personal life.
The website mediatakeout.com reported last month that Kaepernick, the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback, is dating aspiring singer Teyana Taylor. The 26-year-old Kaepernick and the 22-year-old Taylor have been seeing each other off and on for weeks and recently became more serious.
"How serious?" the website asks. "Well, word is that part of the reason why he's been PLAYING SO TERRIBLY lately . . . is that she's TAKING ALL HIS STRENGTH . . . if you know what we mean."
Last week, Montana, the former 49ers starting QB and Hall of Famer suggested that the constant media scrutiny of Kaepernick's game kept him from moving past his struggles.
"I think that's the biggest transition for him," Montana said to 49ers.com as reported by Sports World News. "The worst part about it is everyone is talking to him about it. So it's not like he can relax and let it go and not think about it because everyone brings it up to him every day."
Kaepernick's play has improved the past three weeks as the 49ers have reeled off wins over the Washington Redskins, St. Louis Rams and archrival Seattle Seahawks. But there may be a reason for that as well involving Kaepernick's love life.
MediaTakeOut.com reported Tuesday that Kaepernick is cheating on Taylor with a model named Claudia Nelson, who used to date NBA player Brandon Jennings and hip-hop artist Drake.
If Kaepernick's just-budding relationship with Taylor is cooling off, then she may not have been taking up as much of his time during recent weeks.
