A classic NBA All-Star will delight fans on February when the festivities return to Indiana for the first time since 1985.

NBA Communications confirmed that the league will return to its classic All-Star format that pits the two conferences against each other.

"As the league celebrates basketball's deep roots in the state of Indiana, the 73rd NBA All-Star Game will feature the return of both the classic matchup between the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference and the traditional scoring system with four 12-minute quarters," the NBA said in a statement.

The selection of an All-Star remains the same though. This means there will still be a voting process and 12 players will be selected from each conference.

Another change in the format is the removal of the Final Target Score that was used in the last five editions.

Whoever leads until the buzzer sounds in the fourth will win.

What is retained, though, is the per quarter winner wherein teams will compete for a prize for their charity.

Captains from respective conferences will still be named after the voting tally. The starters will also be selected depending on the fan votes.

In two of the last three seasons (2021 and 2022), fans saw LeBron James and Kevin Durant as captains for the two All-Star teams. They are now both in the Western Conference after KD joined the Phoenix Suns later.

Over at the Eastern Conference, the most popular player is arguably Giannis Antetokounmpo who became a team captain opposite of James three times, including in 2023.
