England has secured a spot in the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament after pulling off a huge 3-1 victory against reigning Euro champions Italy during their qualifying match on Tuesday, October 17, at the Wembley Stadium in London.
The Three Lions suffered a mild setback in the match's early stages when Gianluca Scamacca struck first for Italy in the 15th minute.
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane widened his gap as the national team's all-time leading scorer in the 32nd minute, scoring his 60th goal for the country and the equalizer via a penalty.
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford gave England the lead in the 57th minute, while Kane sealed the victory with another goal in the 77th minute.
Despite the two forwards providing the goals, Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham was the real star of the evening, earning the penalty that led to the equalizer and showcasing an extraordinary burst of speed to assist Rashford in netting the second goal.
"We need to keep building. There is more to come from this team. This was the toughest qualifying group, with the seedings. People have criticized us for not beating the top teams enough, but we have performed really well," England manager Gareth Southgate said.
