The New York Mets are headed in a different direction under President of Baseball Operations David Stearns, and team manager Buck Showalter is not part of it.

The 67-year-old dropped the bombshell to reporters on Sunday, October 1, revealing that management told him that the Mets new leadership wanted to go in a different direction.

"I was honored to get a chance to manage a second New York team and I'm proud of what the Mets did... I wish things could've gone better this season because Mets fans deserve that," an unhappy four-time Manager of the Year stated.

Showalter made the revelation after the Mets season-finale outing against the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Post reported.

Although Showalter was allegedly given the option of stepping aside, it was clear that he was not part of the Mets' management plans for the team moving forward.

"I think the players know I would never quit or resign," Showalter said after the game via Fox Sports. "I had four of five of them in my office today and they said, we would have seen through that in about 30 seconds. But I appreciate it. It was a classy move on the organization and Steve's part."

Mets' misfortunes not entirely on Buck

The Mets' performance this season told heavily on Showalter. They entered the season with the largest payroll in history but finished with a woeful 74-87 win-loss record.

However, Mets team owner Steve Cohen clarified that the team's misfortunes were not entirely on Showalter.

"This is not a reflection on Buck. Buck did everything that we wanted him to do. Obviously the season was a disappointment, but it's not Buck's fault; it's spread across the organization," Cohen stated.
