Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott revealed the inspiration behind their 40-0 drubbing of rivals New York Giants on Sunday.

A simple pregame request by head coach Mike McCarthy was inspiring enough for the whole team to deliver their best during the Cowboys' season opener at the MetLife Stadium.

The 30-year-old quarterback said that McCarthy urged the players to to take their phones out before the game to either text or call all the people who mean the most to them and those who got them to this point to show their gratitude.

The gesture resonated with the players, and it was a catalyst for a game wherein the Cowboys set several franchise records, including the largest shutout win in franchise history.

Prescott himself did not need to score a touchdown to secure the victory, passing 13-of-24 for 143 yards with no touchdowns and interceptions.

Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons makes bold claim

After the resounding win, linebacker Micah Parsons made a stark claim on his team that will surely tick some of their rivals.

"I think we made the statement which I've been trying to make: We're the best defense in the National Football League," the 24-year-old said.

On the other hand, McCarthy played down their effort, saying that it's only one game but they felt good on the way they played on Sunday.

The Cowboys are looking to follow up their dominant win against the new-look New York Jets at home next Sunday.
