On Tuesday night, New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart made WNBA history during their narrow 94-93 win against the Dallas Wings at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

The 29-year-old put on a show, dropping 40 points to help the Liberty notch their seventh straight win.

Stewart also broke the single-season scoring record of the WNBA when she scored her 16th point of the evening.

Coming into the game, the 2018 WNBA Most Valuable Player has scored 845 points for the current campaign, ending the game with 885.

Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi previously held the record when she scored a total of 860 points during the 2006 WNBA season.

New York will play two more games in the regular season against the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday and the Washington Mystics on Sunday, held at home at the Barclays Center.

Stewart signed with the Liberty as a free agent earlier this year after spending the first six seasons of her career with the Seattle Storm, bagging two WNBA titles in 2018 and 2020 while being named Finals MVP for both title runs.

Liberty moves closer to the Aces

The victory enabled the Liberty (31-7) to be one game behind the Las Vegas Aces (32-6) after the latter's historic start this season.

New York has been slowly finding their groove and peaking at the right moment, just in time for the WNBA playoffs.

The Liberty also took down the defending WNBA champions, 94-85, during their last encounter on Monday, August 28.
