PJ Washington opted to stay with the Charlotte Hornets, agreeing to a three-year deal worth $48 million in August.

It took a while for the 25-year-old cager to agree to a new lease, although this bodes well for the goals of the Hornets moving forward, CBS Sports reported.

With both sides finally coming to terms, Washington and the Hornets can now focus on the task at hand. The immediate one is to try and make the NBA playoffs, part of the bigger things that Washington had in mind when he opted to stay with the same team that drafted him 12th overall at the 2019 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Observer reported.

"That's the main focus for us. Since I've been here I haven't been in the playoffs at all. So I want to get a taste of that. I want to see how it feels, and I want to eventually win in the playoffs. I think we have a good coaching staff, we have a good front office, we have good players," the former Kentucky Wildcat stated.

Hornets GM surprised with Washington's revelation

Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak poked fun at the statements of Washington, saying that it was the first time he heard of the 25-year-old's goals, SI.com noted.

But on the serious side, the NBA executive spoke highly of the power forward, branding him as a versatile cager who can fit in with any team.

"He wants to play and he'll fit in wherever the coach puts him in on the court. He's not a player that says, 'Well, I got to play this position and I got to play so many minutes.' He's versatile enough where you could put him at several positions. He just knows how to play. It's a natural ability," the 69-year-old said.
