The New York Giants have acquired the services of Isaiah Simmons, the no. 8 pick of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.

The former Clemson Tiger struggled to fit in with the Cardinals and find his place in three forgettable NFL seasons.

The move was announced on Thursday, August 24, less than a week after Simmons' disappointing preseason performance in the Cardinals' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Associated Press reported.

The Giants have sent a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to the Cardinals, according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The move remains pending until the 25-year-old passes a physical.

Once Simmons passes a physical, the Giants will try to use him as a linebacker, Jordan Raanan of ESPN reported. With the Cardinals, the Nebraska native tried playing as a linebacker and a safety.

Under new general manager Monti Ossenfort, the Cardinals declined to pick up the fifth-year option of Simmons earlier this year. The 25-year-old entered the league as a positionless player and tried his luck in four positions in the first three seasons.

Simmons is not the only one whom the Cardinals dealt out.

Cardinals ship Jones to Texans

Also gone is offensive tackle Josh Jones, who is now with the Houston Texans.

The 26-year-old was dealt to the Texans along with a future seventh-round pick in exchange for a future fifth-rounder from Houston.

Jones was entering the final year of his deal with the Cardinals, and Arizona was likely trying to get some compensation back.

Armed with experience, the former Houston Cougar will join the Texans offensive line that includes Laremy Tunsil, Tytus Howard, and Juice Scruggs, CBS Sports reported.
