Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones could miss nearly half of the team's regular season in their Super Bowl defense campaign.

The 29-year-old is currently in the middle of a negotiation for a possible contract extension, and he has been holding out from all team activities, including the whole training camp, until an agreement is reached.

Jones has given a hint on when exactly he will play again for the reigning Super Bowl champions after he was called out by a fan about his return date.

"Week 8," the two-time Super Bowl champion said on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach previously said earlier this month that Jones deserves a lucrative contract, and they are hoping that this situation gets resolved soon.

Veach also said that the team has no plans of dealing Jones in a trade after losing star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins last year.

Holdout could get costly for Chris Jones

The four-time Pro Bowl selection has been incurring a daily fine of $50,000 in his absence from training camp, and missing seven-game checks could cost an additional $7.5 million.

However, the 2022 First Team All-Pro is not worried one bit.

"I can afford it," Jones said when a Chiefs fan page said his fines could get hefty if he continues to hold out.
