Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson made WNBA history on Tuesday night, tying the league record for most points scored in a single game and becoming only the third player in league history to score more than 50 points.

The power forward scored 53 points on 16-of-23 shooting, 1-of-1 from long distance, and 20-of-21 on the free throw line, alongside seven rebounds and four blocks in the historic game as the Aces claimed a 112-100 win over the Atlanta Dream at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia.

The Aces improved to 29-4, currently the best record in the entire WNBA.

Las Vegas head coach Becky Hammon compared the reigning MVP to one of the most popular comic book characters of all time.

"She runs like a deer, jumps like a cat and catches as if she were Spider-Man. She is just special. Her real gift is in her humility and grace and how she handles herself and her teammates. She is a phenomenal superstar," Hammon said.

A'ja Wilson gunning for third WNBA MVP

The 27-year-old looks well-poised to win her third WNBA MVP award and her second in a row, leading the Aces to a historic start in the season.

Wilson is currently third in the league in scoring, second in rebounding, first in blocks, and fifth in field goal percentage.

The five-time WNBA All-Star previously won the WNBA MVP in 2020 and 2022 and the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in her second MVP year.
