Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White hinted at his future plans in an interview on ESPN Today with host Malika Andrews.

The 6-foot-4 will be eligible to negotiate during a brief three-week window in September for a three-year extension that could reach up to $90 million.

White was enthusiastic about the lucrative possibility but did not want to consider it yet.

"I love being here in Boston. That'll be cool to get an extension. We'll see what happens during that window. I've loved my time in Boston so far. I'm just focused right now on the season," the 29-year-old said.

The Celtics acquired White in February 2022 in a trade with the San Antonio Spurs, where he spent the first four-and-a-half seasons of his career.

The former Spur is coming off a productive 2022-23 NBA season for Boston, averaging 12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists while playing in all 82 games of the regular season.

White was also named in the All-NBA Defensive Second Team last season, leading all guards in blocks with 76.

He notably saved the Celtics' season during Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals by hitting a last-gasp putback to extend their series against the Miami Heat to a deciding Game 7.

Derrick White will have an increased role

White is set to have an increased role in the upcoming 2023-24 season following the departure of longtime guard Marcus Smart.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has confirmed to MassLive.com's Souichi Terada that White will take on the team's starting point guard duties left behind by Smart.
