There's a little more than a month to go before the 2023 NFL season opening, and Cincinnati Bengals are still in danger of starting it without their main quarterback.

Joe Burrow was carted off during Bengals practice and hasn't returned since, even if he and his teammates assured that the injury is nothing major.

How much longer does he have to wait to see the gridiron again?

"Still several weeks from when I (originally) said," coach Zac Taylor told reporters during Bengals camp.

Immediate reports on Burrow's injury were quite positive.

ESPN's Dianna Russini said the star QB had been diagnosed with a calf strain, while Sports Illustrated's update revealed he will miss some time but will be fine.

Coach Taylor was also dismissive of fears he would be out for long.

"This could be a day thing, who knows. There's a lot of guys that had soreness today that had their reps cut down a little bit. That's just part of football in training camp."

Text update through ex-Bengals star

Former Bengals star and current Fox Sports analyst T.J. Houshmandzadeh recently talked in his show about Burrow's recovery.

He said he received a text from the 26-year-old.

"Yeah, I'm cool," Burrow told Houshmandzadeh in a text message. "I'll be out a little bit, but I'm good to go."

The Bengals will come to the new season as one of the top contenders after pushing Kansas City Chiefs to the limit in the AFC Championship and retaining the team's core.
