The New York Giants registered a comprehensive 26-3 victory over the San Francisco 49ers Sunday. Antrel Rolle and Prince Amukamara performed brilliantly in the game.

The Giants it seemed had saved their best for Sunday's game after a rather slow start this season.

Rolle played outstandingly well and intercepted two passes by Alex Smith while Amukamara picked off another to help the Giants thrash the 49ers.

"I think this is our most complete game all year long," Rolle said.

Quarterback Eli Manning was steady, throwing for 193 yards and one touchdown, while Ahmad Bradshaw ran for a total of 116 yards and a score.

The Associated Press quoted Manning as saying about New York's defense: "We were just waiting for them to play like we know they can play. They played outstanding. They played really well, flying around."

Manning's eight successive passes for 142 yards in the first half, kept the 49ers' defense guessing all the time. The Giants' offense increased in the second quarter with Amukamara's interception. Victor Cruz's 6-yard touchdown helped the Giant's to a 7-3 lead and when Tynes kicked a 34-yard field goal the lead was extended to 10-3.

A confident Cruz said: "The statement made is that we're here to stay."

Sunday's game was probably the worst start for Alex Smith in about three years, after the quarterback threw three interceptions. He was also sacked six times by the aggressive Giants defense, who had him under constant pressure.

Smith said: "They're the defending Super Bowl champs. So any time you're playing them, it's a chance to say something and we didn't get it done today."

Meanwhile the Giants coach Tom Coughlin was very happy with the way the defensive line performed on Sunday.

"The nice thing was the pounding away of the pencil on the defensive line," he said. "I think the defensive line finally decided they were going to come out and play today and they did."

The 49ers had beaten the Buffalo Bills 45-3 last Sunday setting a new franchise-record 621 yards. They were however, at the receiving end against the Giants in this game.

The San Francisco cornerback, Carlos Rogers said: "Coaches always let us know that we're not the kings of the NFL, the Giants are. They won a title last year and they're still that team to beat until somebody wins the Super Bowl."
