It has been six years since Colin Kaepernick last played competitive American football, but it is not like he is not trying to return.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback remains without an NFL team which he claims is due to his activism against racial bias in America.

He tried to get back on the gridiron but to no avail. One of those who rejected him was the Las Vegas Raiders, although he believes he showed them what he was capable of.

Kaepernick believes his talent is being overlooked for something else.

"I've heard a lot of excuses over the years, but most of the time it ends up, 'Oh, we're going to see how the guys that we have do," Kaepernick told Sports Illustrated.

"With the Raiders' situation last year, that was Stidham and Nick Mullens, which to me, you just compare résumés and capabilities, on top of the workout and the feedback, it's like, 'O.K., cool.'"

Though he accepted, he still believes there's 'something else within this decision' and hopes he will be judged based on his talent, not their political bias.

49ers he'd like to play with

Kaepernick, who holds the all-time rushing record holder by a QB in a game, said he would continue pushing himself and try to be signed by an NFL team again.

While he clarified that he is not watching that much American football anymore, he remains connected to his former team.

He is especially in awe of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk who he said would be great to quarterback.

"I've seen some of what he's been doing on the field, he's extremely talented, very shifty," Kaepernick told SB Nation.

"To have that, again, as a quarterback, I'm always going to be biased towards receivers, tight ends, but he's someone who immediately stands out."
