The National Football League meted out punishment for the recent gambling violation by several players, and Indianapolis Colts' Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry and free agent defensive lineman Demetrius Taylor took the hardest hit.

The Colts duo, alongside 24-year-old Taylor, was suspended indefinitely as part of the investigation conducted by the league.

The infraction took place in 2022, and it is alleged that they all made bets during the 2022 season while playing for the league, too.

According to the NFL rulebook, players are not to place bets on any NFL games or participate in betting in any teams' sports facilities or hotels. They are also not allowed to have other people place their bets for them, share inside information in relation to betting, or partake in daily fantasy football.

The trio can petition the suspension once the 2023 season ends.

Rodgers and Berry were subsequently released by their team, with General Manager Chris Ballard saying such a move was meant to take care of the league's integrity.

Other suspensions handed

Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Nicholas Petit-Frere received a lighter sentence of six games suspension because he only placed bets on other sports inside the team facility.

Before this new set of suspensions, the league has already punished several others.

Detroit Lions wideout Stanley Berryhill and wide receiver Jameson Williams were suspended six games for betting at team facilities. Their teammates WR Quintez Cephus, safety C.J. Moore, and Washington Commanders defensive lineman Shaka Toney also got indefinite suspensions for betting on NFL games.
