Melvin Gordon has faith Russell Wilson will return to his top form and contend for the best player in the league title again this season.

The free-agent running back commented on his former Denver Broncos teammate during an appearance at the Jim Rome Show. When asked about the capability of the nine-time Pro Bowl, Gordon did not hesitate to say that Wilson is in a better position today to win the top individual plum because of what he is surrounded with.

"Because I know the situation [last year] wasn't good," Gordon said.

"But they got the pieces there now that's going to put him in the best situation. What he does this year, is on him. But I definitely believe they'll be a better football team than they were last year."

Russell Wilson has not won a season Most Valuable Player Award in his career but was right there among the finalists.

His top form has led his former team Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl Championship. The team also finished within the Top 5 in all seasons while he was there.

Lean, mean, and win season for Wilson

Wilson knows this new season will be different and is rebuilding himself to take his team to the next level.

He recently posted a workout of himself in preparation for the next season.

"I wanted to have the best offseason of my life," Wilson said last month.

"Ultimately we want to be the best version of ourselves."

"I'm better than ever ... I feel great, I feel lean and mean and ready to go."
