The Texas Tech Red Raiders registered a comprehensive 49-14 victory over West Virginia Mountainers in Saturday's game.

Seth Doege, the Texas Tech quarterback, was particularly impressive with a career 499 yards and six touchdowns which led the Red Raiders to a surprising win over the No.5 Mountaineers. In the first half he had thrown for 336 yards and 4 touchdowns helping the Raiders to a 35-7 lead.

Texas Tech fans looked simply ecstatic after their team's comprehensive victory over the Mountaineers. Fans stormed the field after the win, the biggest victory ever over a team ranked in the top five.

The Red Raiders offense looked pretty effective and organized.

Doege said: "When you don't have a pass rush it's a lot easier to make your reads."

He further added that his protection was key: "It's huge for a quarterback to sit back there. We had a lot of opportunities to get the ball downfield, and if they play the way they played today, it's just going to continue and we're going to make plays. We have so many weapons that we can expose at any time."

The Mountaineers, it seemed succumbed to Texas Tech's aggressive play. They managed only one touchdown in the second half at a moment when the game had already drifted away from them.

Dana Holgorsen, the Mountaineers coach said: "They rushed four guys and sometimes they got there and sometimes they didn't. It was a poor performance defensively ... and it's just a team loss. They outplayed us. They outcoached us. On all three sides of the ball they did better than we did."

Doege lauded the Raiders' efforts and game plan and highlighted the importance of a good defense.

"It's totally different from last year," he said. "If we got down or whatever the case may be, we might have pressed a little bit.

"But we know that our defense is playing at a high level right now, and I was just blown away by their performance today."

Tommy Tubberville, the Texas Tech head coach added: "Who would have ever thought that that game would have been pretty much put away going into the fourth quarter. Really proud of our players. Man, they worked hard all week. I thought the game plan on both sides, offense and defense, was great."
