English club Manchester City obliterated defending European champions Real Madrid, 4-0, in the much-anticipated second leg of their semifinals showdown at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Wednesday night.

With both teams at a 1-1 deadlock on aggregate, veteran midfielder Bernardo Silva struck twice to provide the English side a cushion over the visitors at halftime.

Manuel Akanji's header bounced off Madrid's Eder Militao and inside the net in the 76th minute, further widening the gap. Julian Alvarez's strike in injury time sealed the deal for City, who are headed to their second Champions League final in three years.

Manchester City Gets Shot at Redemption

Manchester City narrowly missed out on Champions League glory two years ago when they were defeated by Chelsea 1-0.

Last season, Real Madrid came out on top in the semifinals against Manchester City in a dazzling comeback.

With the Spanish side trailing on aggregate, 3-5 by the 90th minute of the second leg, Rodrygo and Karim Benzema came up with three goals in injury time in one of the greatest European comebacks ever.

Manchester City is set to face Italian club Inter Milan in the Champions League final on June 10 at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

The blue side of Manchester has their eyes set on a treble. They virtually have one hand on the Premier League trophy, only needing three points to clinch the league.

City are also set to face derby rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3. With three more wins, they can accomplish the rare feat.
