The San Antonio Spurs won the NBA draft lottery and the right to select Victor Wembanyama, the most anticipated basketball prospect in years.
This marks the third time the Spurs will pick first overall in the draft. For the first two times, they selected all-time greats David Robinson in 1987 and Tim Duncan a decade later.

Spurs Win NBA Draft Lottery, Gets to Pick Victor Wembanyama
Spurs team owner Peter J. Hoult was delighted when NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum announced that the Charlotte Hornets would be handed the number 2 pick in the upcoming draft.
This could be a chance for the Spurs to go back to their winning ways, having missed the past four postseasons after making 22 straight prior, winning five NBA championships in that span.
The storied franchise finished the 2022-23 season with the worst record in the Western Conference and the second-worst overall in the NBA.
On the other hand, the Detroit Pistons failed to crack the top four in the lottery despite finishing with a league-worst 17-65 record. This is the fifth consecutive season wherein the team with the worst record failed to get the top pick.
Second-overall pick holders Charlotte Hornets could select projected #2 pick Scoot Henderson to pair with their All-Star guard LaMelo Ball.
The Portland Trail Blazers have many options after landing with the third overall selection. They could trade their pick for a star to pair with Damian Lillard to push for another run at the title, or trade Lillard and commit to rebuilding for a few years.
The NBA released the rest of the draft order shortly.
