Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr revealed that the Draymond Green-Jordan Poole punching incident affected the team's title defense, which saw them go through a shaky regular season and elimination in six games against the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs.

Kerr said that the altercation played a role in the Warriors coming up short in defending the crown this season, stating that "there was some trust lost" and that they have to get back to a trusting environment, which was one of the things that made them successful during their title runs.

The four-time champion coach still believes that Green is an integral part of the team, standing firm that they would not be championship contenders without him, despite his antics compromising the season.

When asked about his relationship with Green, Poole said it has been strictly business and basketball, which is certainly not a promising sign.

During the 2021-22 season, when Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were out for an extended time due to injuries, Poole and Green developed a bond. The two spent time on road trips together, and Poole considered Green a big brother as he sought tutelage from the veteran.

This relationship would change after an altercation between the two broke out during a practice session in the preseason. After a heated exchange, Draymond struck Poole's face with his right hand, starting a tumultuous season for Golden State.

Footage of the incident leaked, adding more scrutiny. Green was ultimately not suspended, but he was fined an unspecified amount.
