The NFL announced on Friday that it had suspended several Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders players for violating its gambling policy.
The league suspended Shaka Toney, Quintez Cephus, and C.J. Moore indefinitely for betting on NFL games during the 2022 season. Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill were suspended for six games each for other gambling policy violations, including betting on non-NFL games from an NFL facility.

Jameson Williams' Suspension Not Related to the Betting
The suspensions for Toney, Cephus, and Moore will last at least through the 2023 season, while Williams and Berryhill will be eligible to participate in offseason activities and preseason games but will be suspended at the start of the regular season.
The Lions have released Cephus and Moore, and General Manager Brad Holmes stated that the team is disappointed in the players' decision-making and had decided to part ways with them immediately.
The league's review found no evidence that any inside information was used or that any games were compromised.
Alliance Sports, the firm that represents Williams, issued a statement saying that his suspension was not related to betting on the NFL but was a result of a technical regulation concerning the place where the online bet was made.
The league's gambling policy prohibits all personnel from placing, soliciting, or facilitating any bet on any NFL game, practice, or event. It also prohibits all personnel from engaging in any form of gambling in any club or league facility, or venue.
The NFL lifted the suspension of wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who had been banned from playing during the previous season due to his involvement in betting on NFL games.
The league and its teams have embraced legalized sports betting as a revenue source through partnerships after previously opposing efforts to spread its legalization. While the league has allowed partnerships with sports betting companies, it continues to prohibit players and other personnel from betting on NFL games or engaging in any form of gambling in league facilities.
