Tim Tebow's much-anticipated return to the National Football League did not go according to plan on Saturday, with social media users making fun of his performance during Jacksonville Jaguars' opening preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Jaguars vs. Browns clash was a must-see TV for many football fans as this was the preseason debut of Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and the first game of Tebow while playing in his new position as a tight end.

Tebow played just a total of 16 snaps on Saturday, but that was enough for fans and critics alike to dissect his action on the field. He was supposed to enter the half-time break with reception, but wide receiver Tavon Austin stole Gardner Minshew's pass intended for him.

Tebow's horrible blocking goes viral

What caught the attention of fans was Tebow's performance as a blocker, one of the main jobs of an NFL tight end. Tebow went viral after a poor blocking attempt was caught on video. He tried to get up after his failed block attempt, but more hilarity ensued as Tebow appeared to spear one of his Jags teammates with his helmet by accident.

Twitter users quickly pounced on the viral clip, with Barstool Sports claiming that "Tebow just FLATTENED a man." PFF also posted a sarcastic take, saying, "Tim Tebow: TE1." Karen Howell got plenty of laughs as well when she posted, "Y'all don't be ugly about Tebow on Twitter cause you know he won't be able to block you."

Tebow's block on the very next play was even worse than the one seen on the viral clip. A video posted by CBS's Chris Towers showed Tebow in the No. 85 jersey getting tossed out of the way by a Cleveland Browns pass-rusher, who immediately stopped running back Dare Ogunbowale.

Can Tebow crack the Jaguars' lineup?

Though he has the backing of former Florida coach Urban Meyer, Tebow has quite a battle in his hands to nab a roster spot in Jacksonville's lineup for the upcoming NFL season. He was listed as the No. 4 tight end on the Jaguars' unofficial depth chart, with Chris Manhertz and James O'Shaughnessy tipped to be the starters and fifth-round draft pick Luke Farrell as the team's third option in that position.

Tebow needs to step up his game and prove his worth to the Jaguars in their next two preseason outings if he is to survive the roster cuts. On Monday night, the Jaguars will next face the New Orleans Saints before concluding their exhibition slate with a showdown against the Dallas Cowboys on August 30.
