The New York Knicks are hoping a new mind-over-matter approach could aid the team in rising above its 3-12 doldrums.
The New York Post reports either owner James Dolan or newly installed team president Steve Mills has ordered the team to embrace the power of positive thinking as the organization fights to save its season.
On the heels of a winless, four game road trip, the Knicks return to Madison Square Garden to play four of their next games against the likes of New Orleans, Brooklyn, Orlando, Boston and Cleveland, a combined 28-53.
So desperate are the Knicks for a change in momentum, star forward Carmelo Anthony was even finding the silver-linings in the team's eighth straight loss in Denver Friday night.
"When you play like we did, we competed,'' Anthony told The Post of the team's 97-95 defeat. "There's no reason to hang our heads. It's a bitter feeling we lost, but we took a step forward in getting better. We're trying. We played much harder. We got the trust in one another. But it's an uphill battle and a tough hole to get out of.''
After the Knicks lost to Clippers 93-80 in L.A. on Nov. 27, Raymond Felton told The Post the losing streak was "mindboggling.'' Two nights later after the Denver loss and having already received the edict from up above, Felton sounded like an entirely different person.
"We looked better,'' he told the newspaper. "We played much harder. I think we're starting to turn this around. We gave ourselves a chance to win on the road, against a good team in their building. You still hate that you lost. But you played with the effort. That's a positive.''
