Formula One British GP: Sebastian Vettel Wins, But Lewis Hamilton Stole The Show

German rider Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari completed a come-from-behind victory as he outpaced his opponents to claim the British Grand Prix in Silverstone.

He beat Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and teammate Kimi Raikkonen who finished in second and third places respectively. It also marked the 51st victory of Vettel this season to tie four-time world titlist Alain Prost in third place on the all-time list. Despite the loss, Hamilton only trails Vettel by eight points heading into the midway point of the season.

Vettel said that he was in doubt if he could make the corner after surprising Hamilton's teammate Valtteri Bottas. The German daredevil who is suffering from neck pains heading into the race had to wear heat pads to ease the pain.

"It was fine. The neck held up, and the race was fantastic and what a great crowd. I enjoyed a lot. I think the people enjoyed a lot, what an amazing day," Vettel said.

Bottas finished in fourth while Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull and Nico Hulkenberg of Renault finished in fifth and sixth spots respectively. Completing the top 10 were Esteban Ocon of Force India, Fernando Alonso of McLaren, Kevin Magnussen of Haas, and Pierre Gasly of Toro Rosso.

Hamilton Is Driver Of The Day

Hamilton seemingly was in a good position to outlast Vettel and Raikkonen as he took the pole lead early but excessive wheelspin off the line cost the Briton the lead. Heading into the third turn, Raikkonen took Hamilton's Mercedes for a spin as the front left of his Ferrari hit the rear right of the latter's ride.

Nonetheless, Hamilton managed to recover just in time to move closer to sixth place in the 10th lap. On the other hand, Vettel continued to push the pedal to the metal as he passed Bottas to take the lead with five laps to go.

Hamilton tried to make a massive comeback as he passed Bottas in the next lap to move in second. However, Vettel kept his composure under tremendous pressure as he held on to the lead to secure the victory.

Despite the loss, sports pundits recognized Hamilton the Driver of the Day award reiterating the incredible recovery of the Mercedes rider in the closing laps. Hamilton promised the crowd that he is hoping to bounce back in the next races. The German and the Hungarian Grands Prix are set to go off in the last two weekends of this month.
