Jordyn Adams Signs Up With Angels, Won't Play For UNC

Four-star recruit and the University of North Carolina commit Jordyn Adams has decided to forgo college to play with the Los Angeles Angels in the Major League Baseball (MLB).

The 18-year-old Adams, who plays as an outfielder and receiver for Green Hope High School, was selected 17th overall by the LA Angels in the 2018 MLB Draft which concluded on Monday.

Adams announced his decision on Twitter last Tuesday by thanking his coaches in UNC. He also cited that playing in the major league has been his lifelong dream.

Adams, which was considered as the eighth-best wide receiver in the 2018 class, has shown some flashes of brilliance in his high school career.

In his senior year with Green Hope High School, Adams accumulated 54 receptions, 1,060 yards, and 16 touchdowns. He has also suited up in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl as well as in the Under Armour All-America Game.

Adam's impressive play in high school paid golden dividends after receiving scholarship offers in college from renowned universities such as UNC, Alabama, University of Kentucky, Maryland, and Clemson.

Other schools that showed a keen interest in his services were Indiana, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Louisiana State University.

Completing the list of schools were East Carolina, Mississippi State, Southern Methodist University, and Texas Christian University.

The Morrisville, North Carolina star ultimately committed to joining the UNC Tarheels last year.

Loaded Angels Lineup

Adams will likely be clawing his way in the rotation most especially since the outfield position of the LA Angels are loaded with experienced stars.

Among those stars include the two-time American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) Mike Trout, Michael Hermosillo, Chris Young, and four-time All-Star Justin Upton.

However, the LA Angels haven't been living up to its resume of stars lately with its last division title victory occurring in 2014. The LA Angels last won a World Series in 2002 back when they were known as the Anaheim Angels.

Adams, who was drafted in the first round, is expected to make at least three million dollars in his rookie contract with the LA Angels.
