Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski recently made headlines during the Opening Day of the Boston Red Sox after their playful scuffle in the mound. Now, the New England Patriots stars are in the headlines again, this time by getting in touch and helping Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts.
According to Chase Goodbread of NFL.com, Tom Brady and "Gronk" are helping Jalen Hurts by talking to him during spring practice. The Alabama QB has access to the Patriots since his new Crimson Tide offensive coordinator is Brian Daboll.
Daboll has been with the Patriots for a total of ten seasons in two different spans. He was their offensive coordinator from 2013 until this past season wherein he won his fifth Super Bowl championship. He replaced Steve Sarkisian, who signed on to become the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons.
Jalen Hurts had a 14-1 record last season and he led Alabama to the College Football title game as a freshman. He went through three offensive coordinators in his rookie year but he is already getting a lot from his new OC.
In an interview with the Alabama Media Group, Hurts revealed that he has been talking to Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski on the phone. He noted that Daboll runs the same plays as the Patriots so Hurts can learn a lot from the greatest quarterback of all time.
"We always FaceTime Gronkowski and Tom Brady. He's cool, laid back and about his business," Hurts said.
"We're running some of the same stuff they ran, so Daboll will call him and ask Tom Brady what his top-five plays are," Hurts said. "It's cool because we're running the same plays he's ran, so I think it's cool," he added.
Hurts added that Daboll has shown him film of Tom Brady and the Patriots, as well as those during his time with New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. As for Brady, he is currently enjoying his reunion with two of his stolen Super Bowl jerseys.
