Although Cleveland has been able to land high-performing quarterbacks (QB) like Johnny Manziel and Robert Griffin III, the Browns continue to falter after the regular season. Since 1999, the team has never qualified for a playoff spot. Heart-broken fans have to contend with a couple of winning years during that stretch.
While the road ahead for the Cleveland Browns remains uncertain, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. The football club will get a chance to put the fortunes of the team on the hands of one of their own. This hope may come through University of Carolina (UNC) junior quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Born in Ohio, the potential number one draft pick easily recognizes the organization's immediate need.
With 13 starts to his credit, Trubisky may be too raw to make a difference. However, there is one solid thing going for him. He is definitely a huge fan of the Browns. Even with the team's hapless records, the college standout has strongly supported his hometown sports group.
With Cleveland holding the first and twelfth picks in the 2017 NFL draft, the team is looking for a consistent signal-caller from this year's batch. Considering that analysts and scouts have touted the young Mitch Trubisky to be the best among quarterback candidates, the Browns may just have to get him quick and soon.
If Trubisky gets to wear the Browns jersey, he will not be the first hometown pick to be selected. In the past, Cleveland has been able to land Bernie Kosar, Brady Quinn, Charlie Frye and Brian Hoyer. The junior QB's close affinity with his former mentors is known.
Whenever he's home, he makes it a point to visit his teachers. When he lost his starting spot at UNC in 2014, he has opted to stay instead of transferring to another school that could give him more playing time. He even continues to get in touch with his high school coach Steve Trivisonno.
Patience is also a vital element for Mitch Trubisky. He has to wait on the sidelines for a couple of seasons as teammate Marquise Williams got the bulk of playing time. According to him, the circumstance has taught him to manage controllable situations and to be supportive of everybody on the group.
